Polymer Chemistry

Polymer Chemistry for a Greener World

Since the mid-20th century, polymers have changed how we interface with our world. The synthesis of novel organic materials has revolutionized everything from how we deliver packages to how we target disease. Unfortunately, we haven’t always considered the environmental impact of these materials. Our aim must be to design new materials with exceptional properties while incorporating principles of green chemistry into our design process.

Founded in 2021 at Wesleyan University, the Elling Lab is working to develop new methods to synthesize functional polymers with a focus on using renewable feedstocks, material reprocessing, and polymer end of life.
